The Seeds of Quality Traffic
at 2005-08-19 04:16:35

Over the weekend I participated in Blogathon 2005 over at my baby, The Alaska Blog.  I am proud to say that this event raised $475 dollars for Alaskan Aids Assistance Association.

Not only that, but this event allowed me to really bond with my small group of readers in a way that I hadn’t expected.  They cheered me on and kept me entertained and motivated by sending me IMs, comments and emails.  A couple people checked in during the wee hours of the morning even!

And I know that you bloggers will appreciate this—I wrote at a feverish pace, 57 posts in 24 hours.

(Some of you probably do that before lunch on a normal day, but for me, it was a real challenge.)

Why I don't comment on your blog
at 2005-08-19 04:16:35

I want to confess something:  I often want to leave a comment on someone’s blog, but don’t.  I don’t because the technology makes it difficult.

Blogger is a great example.  I recently registered with Blogger because I felt really really really compelled to leave someone a comment.  But until recently, I’d click on the comments section prepared to leave my thoughts, see the login requirements, and just keep on moving.

I’ve visited some LiveJournal and similar hosted sites recently and gone “Huh?  I don’t get it!” I don’t bother to figure it out.  I guess I’m lazy, but I’m probably not the only one.

I think that people that use hosted solutions such as Blogger might find that their comments section will get a little more action if they make it easier on the user to leave comments.  ( The Three Main Reasons for having a Website

The Three Main Reasons for having a WebsiteNo matter what anyone tells you there are THREE andI mean THREE reasons every company must have a Website. You must think of these THREE reasons in this order.
1. Increase the company's profitability!2. Increase the company's profitability!!!3. Increase the company's profitability!!!!!!
If you DO NOT view your Website with this vision in mind there is no reason to have a Website.
If you are thinking about having your Website designed or updating and existing site with the company~s profitability in mind, you must offer THREE things to your existing customers and potential customers.
1. The best possible product or service available in today's market place!
2. Customer service that is above and beyond your customer~s expectations!!!
3. A reason to return to your Website to purchase additional products or services!!!!!!
OK!!
1. You have made the decision to have a new Website des

Primer on Link Popularity

Primer on Link Popularity
Link popularity is an off-site process of promoting website rankings. It is assessed by the number and quality of external incoming links to your site. External incoming links are links on other sites that point to yours.
Search engines consider link popularity important because they see links from other sites to yours as a kind of recommendation or guarantee of the worth of your site.
Link popularity arose as a ranking factor because so many people used spamming techniques to position their site higher in the rankings. Engines started to use link popularity as a means of dampening that impact. Assigning a link popularity value to a website based on number of incoming quality links pointing to it was deemed an effective way to determine whether a site had useful content or not because if other people think it does, then surely it must.
Of course, this has not stopped people from finding ways to artifically

The Power of the Link Exchange

The Power of the Link Exchange
Let's face it. Getting webmasters to link to your site is difficult.
But a good linking strategy is necessary to build link popularity - a measure of the popularity of a website based on the number of
other website's linking to it. And at the same time it has become very difficult to compete on the internet with websites that have
1000s of backlinks, sites that have their carefully chosen anchor text firmly in place.
So let's do the math. If you as a webmaster were to gain one new link to your site every day for one year you would only have 365
backlinks. Even with a more optimistic 2 links a day we are still only talking about 730 links. They may seem like a lot but in the real
world of the internet and depending on the keywords you are competing for, you may need hundreds or even thousands more.
Why? Because link popularity is the ultimate tool in achieving ranking. Link popularity is me
